“Govtech, a global partnership: putting people first”

South Summit 2020 | Govtech Track

We spoke to Tracey Lane, Practice Lead at the World Bank on the Govtech Track at South Summit 2020 (6th October 2020), the Leading Innovation Global Platform focused on business opportunities and disruptive trends, that gathers together the entrepreneurial ecosystem running from the 6th to the 8th of October 2020.

What would you say are the building blocks for govtech?

3 aspects: universal access and putting the citizen at the center; a whole of government approach; and a public modernization that is simple, efficient and transparent.

Tell us a bit more about the initiative: Who’s in? What’s the goal and how can governments, startups and other actors of the govtech ecosystem be part of it?

The private sector, public sector, academics and stakeholders and also initiatives at the country level, so that local startups are involved. The goal is to put the citizen first when it comes to public sector modernization.

Does govtech work at all levels of digital maturity?

Yes. Thinking it doesn’t is a misconception. Govtech solutions come across all levels of digital maturity.
